Olympique de Marseille 1 - 2 Tottenham Hotspur
With Conte banned from the touchline and even the dressing room following his dismissal at the end of the Sporting Lisbon game, Spurs had a tough task ahead to get at least a point in Marseille's hostile Stade Vélodrome.
A painful first half with 11 men behind the ball and whenever we got it simply hoofing it forward.
Son suffered a nasty shoulder to the face while challenging a header early on and had to be replaced.
Bissouma came on to replace him and we switched to a 3-5-2.
It didn't change much though, still us defending our box while they attacked it.
Then inevitably they scored. A simple back post header from a corner in first half stoppage time.
Spurs had to come up with a reply in the 2nd half, but it didn't look likely to happen.
MUCH better after the break. As has been the case so often this season. Threatening from the off and soon we got a free-kick that Perišić curled in from between the penalty box and halfway line and Lenglet rose to nod it into the bottom corner. His first goal for the club and what a vital one it was!
But then we went back to defending deep and hoofing it clear to nobody up there.
We did liven up again in moments though, as Marseille seemingly started to tire. Højbjerg crashed one against the crossbar, and Kane was denied in the box by a brilliant last ditch sliding tackle.
We entered into the nervy closing moments with Spurs clinging onto a draw. With just 5 to go Ex-Arsenal man Kolašinac somehow headed down and wide from point blank range. Everyone thought it was in. A huge let off for Spurs.
Then came the icing on the cake courtesy of our superstar viking Højbjerg.
Davies curled it clear and Kane broke away down the left side in the final minute of stoppage time.
With the whole Marseille team but the keeper and one defender up in Spurs' half, Kane suddenly realised he could slide Højbjerg in on his right. He did so, and the Dane powered forward with it under increasing pressure from the defender rushing back, but he laced a shot across goal from the edge of the box and it crashed against the inside of the post and into the back of the net.
A glorious moment! Wheeling away to the small section of Spurs support in the intimidating Stade Vélodrome.
The ref blew up amongst the celebrations and our lads had done it, as group winners too.
Bring on the knockout stages.
MOTM - Ivan Perišić - A peach perfect assist for the equaliser and made a number of important headers, blocks and tackles.
COYS!
